Carter Lake is located in Northwest Omaha, in Douglas County, Nebraska. It has approximately 281 acres of water, and lies on the state line between Nebraska and Iowa. The lake is located in a very urbanized area of Omaha, and the lake gets a great deal of use from jet skiers and boaters.

  The Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission lists the lake as having good fishable populations of Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, and Carp. Most fish are taken by shore fishing with minnows or worms. Fishing from boats is very difficult in the summer months due to the amount of recreational boating traffic on the lake.

  Facilities at Carter Lake include drinking water, boat ramps, restrooms, and picnic facilities.


  Carter Lake is located in northeast Omaha, in Douglas County. It also sits adjacent to the city of Carter lake Iowa. The lake itself has approximately 300 surface acres of water, and is located in a very urbanized area of the city. All boats are allowed on the lake, and the area is a favorite spot for users of personal water craft and water skiers. The public use of this lake is very heavy, especially in the summer.

  The Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission lists the lakes as containing populations of Bluegill, Buffalo, Bullhead, Carp, Channel Catfish, Crappie, Drum, Largemouth Bass, Pike, and Walleye. Most of the fish produced from the lake are Carp and Catfish. Some good Walleye and Bass have been taken from the lake, but they are in the definite minority.

  Carter Lake is a city of Omaha Park and is subject to the rules and regulations of the city. Facilities at Carter lake include boat ramps, restrooms, and handicapped fishing access.
