Midway Canyon Reservoir is located approximately 8 miles Southwest of Cozad, in Dawson County, Nebraska. Central Midway lake is approximately 607 acres, and is excellent fishing, but has somewhat limited access to the lake. Power boating on the lake is allowed. There is also access to other lakes in the area through the Tri-County Supply Canal depending on water levels. This is how we gained access to the lake, using a small boat.
The Nebraska State Game and Parks Commission lists the lake as having good populations of Channel and Flathead Catfish, Crappie, Drum, White Bass, and Walleye. We also visually spotted some very large Northern Pike swimming in the shallows close to shore.
For the most part the adjoining areas of the lake are privately owned, and facilities are sparse. There are a great deal of facilities available close by at Johnson Lake.
